A massive congratulations to
Anthony Bryan
Double Gold CPISRA World Champion!
At the age of 6 Anthony was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour. During the operation to remove the tumour he suffered a stroke which left him partly paralysed down the left side of the body…but that hasn’t stopped him!
Initially starting with football, Anthony trained and played with Tottenham Hotspurs and eventually the London Cerebral Palsy team. He then turned his focus to Athletics and earlier this year was selected to represent England in the CPISRA World Games held in Nottingham August 2015. You wouldn’t believe this was his first championship in an England vest, as he smashed his personal best in the 800m by 8 seconds, completing it in 2min : 45sec! He then knocked off 12 seconds off of his 1500m personal best, by completing this in 5min : 50sec, earning him the 2 gold medals and world titles in his Category!
This is what Anthony had to say about his experience:
“It was an amazing opportunity to experience an international competition and mix with other athletes all with the potential of becoming future Paralympians. It has definitely given me the confidence and drive to push and reach that higher level as the coaches are really encouraging. This is just the first step to an international career. I was very proud to be wearing the England kit, representing my country, and standing to the National Anthem, as I received my medals. It makes all that hard work and training really worth it.”
Working as a qualified Personal Trainer, he currently teaches fitness classes at a YMCA in London for both the able bodied and young stroke survivors attending Different Strokes sessions held there. We hope to host an evening with this inspirational athlete for a short Q&A at FAABI. If you would like to attend this, and events like this, please send an email or give us a call.
