At fAABI, we work with people who weren’t born with brain injuries but who have them due to accidents, tumours, strokes and other reasons. Brain injuries affect people physically, socially and emotionally. Usually, mobility, confidence and cognitive ability are significantly reduced. Tai Chi is well recognised in really improving concentration, relaxation, cognitive ability, breathing, posture and movement.
Tai Chi sessions will enable 225 people with a brain injury to improve their physical and mental health through group exercises in a friendly and supportive environment. Not only will Tai Chi make it possible for people with a brain injury to improve their balance, mobility and breathing, but also will be a chance to create real friendships and combat loneliness which affects so many post-injury.
“There’s this energy in the room that just makes you believe that what you are doing is really powerful. I would feel quite silly doing this on my own, so when I do it in a group it makes me feel much better. I probably wouldn’t go to other groups though, because they don’t really understand my injury so I am really glad that fAABI held these sessions”.
